Hotel d’Angleterre – Where timeless Elegance meets Perfection
As a passionate world traveler living in central Copenhagen, a staycation at Kongens Nytorv in the city centre never occurred to me. Oh well, at least not until spring time in 2020 showed up… and the world somehow came to a standstill, and travel bans became a bad habit.
The beautiful Hotel d’Angleterre (established in 1755) with its’ beautiful facade, columns and legendary history always make me take an extra look at this historical beauty, whenever I pass it. It’s difficult not to do so, as the building is truly impressive and simply exudes an indescribable touch of elegance, luxury and style.
Obviously, when spring arrived in Copenhagen and it was time to choose a hotel for the perfect staycation in Copenhagen, d’Angleterre was the one and only perfect option!
The choice of high end hotels in Copenhagen are endless but I had no doubt where to go mainly because:
-It’s a historic hotel
-It’s a Copenhagen landmark
-It’s a traditional hotel
-Rooms looked stunning on the website
-The location must be the very best in Copenhagen right on Kongens Nytorv (King’s Square), just opposite Nyhavn, close to Strøget shopping and within the historical area of the city
The iconic hotel on a beautiful spring day.
I contacted the reservations department via e-mail and the first “wow” (many more were to follow) appeared during this contact. The information and the service was impeccable and all my questions were replied to immediately.
From the moment we arrived at the hotel in order to check in, we knew that we were up to an experience out of the ordinary.
I love the accommodations with a stunning view of Kongens Nytorv (King’s Square) and Nyhavn. No wonder that the hotel has been chosen by Forbes Magazine and Departures mag. (American Express), just to mention a few, to have the best hotel view!
The rooms are so tastefully decorated and I love the elegant, stylish, yet cozy decor. Despite the decor being very traditional, it still has so much Danish “hygge” mixed into it with warm colors and soft textiles. Some 5-star hotel rooms tend to be elegant, but “cold” and without any warmth and charme. This is definitely not the case at “The White Lady” where the rooms are very luxurious but with plenty of ambience, yet stylish with only the finest quality of textiles and decor.
Bathrooms are very spacious and I love the whites and the golden details.
The food at the hotel is out of this world and Restaurant Marchal certainly deserves its Michelin star. Head executive chef, Andreas Bagh, has created some amazing dishes, most being the perfect combination of Nordic and French cuisine. I love the fact that he prefers “simple” dishes and manages to cook traditional dishes with a magic twist! You can clearly taste that all raw materials used are of finest quality only, as well as that every single meal has been prepared with love!
I’m a huge fan of room service while staying at hotels and the room service is fabulous as for both the food and the service.
The menu has some classics but since this hotel does not say “no” to anything (it seems), you can also order most dishes from the Marchal menu.
The breakfast at the hotel is the best I ever had anywhere in the world!
I’ve never been a fan of buffets so the a’la carte breakfast at the hotel is right down my alley! The menu is extensive and you will be more than ready to conquer the world after a d’Angleterre breakfast.
You can also enjoy the breakfast if you’re not staying at the hotel and what better way is there to start a new day, with the most delicious of the most important meal of the day, while watching Copenhagen wake up outside the window?
During the spring 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and the lock down of dining in restaurants, the hotel also started to offer take-away, which is extremely rare for a restaurant of its kind. The service has been a huge success and has been given best of the best well earned reviews!
The menu is seasonal and changes every few months, prices are very reasonable and the food, needless to say, is breathtaking!
The hotel also hosts Amazing Space Spa , which has a lovely relax area with a pool as well as sauna and steambath.
Heavenly treatments are available and I personally love the facial treatments and the massages.
Amazing Space bath/body/face products are also sold here and I can highly recommend them. The hotel naturally have the bath/body products in all the rooms, which is another great reason to come and spend the night(s).
The service at the hotel actually deserves a blog post on its very own.
I can not, in any superlatives, describe just how amazing and outstanding the service is at this hotel!
I have never experienced anything close to it and to be honest, I highly doubt I ever will.
Every single member of staff, who I met will go out of their way to do anything they can to make you happy.
I am truly amazed by how they makes you feel like you are the most important guest in the hotel!
Everybody will go above and beyond to make your stay/visit the best ever, regardless of who you are and who you are not.
It’s a fine line between great personal service and exaggerated, “too much” service but at the d’Angleterre this fine art simply comes natural.
“The White Lady” knows service like no other and masters it in such a unique way, that you will always want to return.
So if you are looking for that special place to go and spoil yourself rotten, don’t look any further because Hotel d’Angleterre is the place to do so!
Nobody will do it better.
